Frequently asked questions

Who is Hannah Moloney?

Hannah is a qualified and practising SENCO and specialist assessor who works across a group of primary and secondary schools in England, UK. You can learn more about her here.

Is the book useful for a teacher in any country?

The book is written from an English perspective and includes tests that have been designed on English-speaking populations who live in a Western culture. The book and the tests are likely be helpful in any setting, but particularly in the UK, USA, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand, and any schools that follow a British curriculum worldwide.

Do the book and training cover the same information?

The training is based upon information covered in the book but they are different. There is large amounts of crossover but the book is more detailed and serves as a reference guide. The training videos are designed to be shorter and easily digestible, ideal for training any administrators of screening tests (such as Teaching Assistants). As such, they do not cover the same depth of information.

Can schools buy in in-person screening training?

This isn't something we offer. Training is all on-demand and available on the website. If you are a school in need of a screening for a pupil, you can purchase an online screening with one of the NCIM assessors here.

Can parents-carers use the screening tests and tools on their own children?

We do not recommend this. Other than the screening tools which are specifically designed to gather parent views, the resources are designed to be used by trained professionals with the children and young people in their setting. This means that parents-carers should not use the tools on their own children. There are two reasons for this:

  1. Whilst they are designed to be easy to use, they are designed for professional educational use, not personal use. Those working in an educational setting have a number of experiences and skills which they draw upon when using the resources.

  2. It is very difficult to be impartial when assessing your own children. This means that the data gained from the tests is not considered reliable (you might get a very different answer with a different person on a different day - families are complex and dynamic!)

Can NCIM online screening assessments be used as evidence for JCQ Access Arrangements (UK)?

Yes. All NCIM online assessors are Level 7 qualified and can provide a certificate of qualification for schools to hold on file. Before we assess, schools must provide a partially completed Form 8 for us to fill in. You can purchase an online screening with one of the NCIM assessors here.
